Answer the Question – “Why ACT Now?”

Leading up to Fashion Cares 2007, Canada’s largest fundraiser in support of the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), ACT posed the question - “Why ACT Now?” on YouTube.

What better way to make your thoughts on the fight against HIV/AIDS heard then to upload your own video to YouTube, for the world to see and listen to? Canadians were asked to share their thoughts and provocative statements on what action we can take now to fight the current HIV/AIDS epidemic. Participants in the contest were given the chance to win two gala tickets to Fashions Cares on May 12, 2007.

To provide inspiration and help launch the contest, Canadian media celebrities such as Jeanne Beker, George Stroumboulopoulos, Adamo Ruggiero, and Erica Ehm each contributed compelling statements on HIV/AIDS via their own personal YouTube videos. Blogger outreach and mainstream media relations also helped get the word out about the contest.

Mark Piercey responded. Mark’s entry embodied the spirit of community and hope that year after year, Fashion Cares endeavours to pass on. At the same time, Mark was creative and personal, drawing a picture of both global and local awareness that generated a meaningful discussion on the topic of HIV/AIDS.

The AIDS Committee of Toronto thanks Mark for his entry and all those who participated in the online conversation about HIV/AIDS.
